osu homecoming

Walkaround
Friday, October 22

On Friday evening we headed to Stillwater for the Walkaround. Colby and I ordered the ErgoBaby carrier for the event so that we wouldn't have to carry Miller around. But, between my parents and Colby and I, we ended up carrying him all evening anyway. We tried the carrier while we were walking from our car to campus and Miller didn't seem to mind it. When we got to campus, we took him out to start taking pictures. Then, it was crowded and difficult to get him back into the carrier, so we just held him. We aren't really sure whether he likes the carrier or not. We will have to try it again in a less stressful and less busy environment.

Mackenzie's sorority house, Chio-Omega, did homecoming with Fiji this year. Their house decoration was AMAZING! We didn't get a good picture of it because it was already dark by the time we got to Stillwater. Chi-O and Fiji won the house decoration competition and sweepstakes. Yay! We are so proud! I know Mackenzie and all of her friends worked really hard pomping and preparing for homecoming! We didn't get to see their sign. The signs were on library lawn and we weren't able to walk all the way to the library. It was getting late and we knew that Miller would start getting fussy.

Miller with my parents. Doesn't he look so cute in his new jeans and shoes?! He finally got some jeans that are long enough!

Tailgating
Saturday, October 23

On Saturday, we went back to Stillwater to tailgate for the OSU v Nebraska game. Brian and Krystle and Dustin and Melody were both having tailgates. The game was at 2:30 and we didn't get to Stillwater until about 12:30. Plus, as we were getting ready to walk to the tailgates, we realized that our stroller had a flat tire. So, after some debate, we decided to stop by the library and try to air up the tire. Thankfully, it worked and we were able to use the stroller. Dustin and Melody had tickets to the game, so we weren't able to spend as much time with them as we had hoped. However, we stayed during the game and tailgated with Brian and Krystle. We had a lot of fun and Miller did really well! He was able to nap a little bit in his stroller and everyone enjoyed getting to see him. There were two other couples there with babies about the same age as Miller (one was 3 ½ months old and the other 2 months old). In comparison, Miller seems really big and so alert!

Miller with Uncle Brian. Miller looked so cute with his orange and white striped socks!

Our friend, Jeff, was also there with his son, Carter. So cute!

My friend, Lacy, came to see Miller! It was so exciting to see her!!!

ouch!

Tuesday, October 19

Miller had his 2-month check-up with Kathy and his first round of immunizations! You can tell that he wasn't happy about the shots! He was a little cranky for the rest of the day on Tuesday and very drowsy all day Wednesday. He ran a low-grade fever Tuesday and Wednesday, so I gave him Tylenol. By Thursday he was back to his alert, playful self.

His check-up went really well! He is perfectly healthy and seems to be reaching all of his developmental milestones. I was a little concerned about his shoulder "popping", but Kathy said this was normal. While Miller was lying on the table, he kept arching his back. Kathy said this was the first step towards rolling over. She practiced rolling him part way over, then Miller would kick his leg and move his hip to roll himself the rest of the way over. He also followed a light with his eyes, held his head up on his own and put weight on his legs. He showed Kathy how he holds his head and shoulders up like a big boy when he lays on his tummy. She explained that it is important for him to work those back muscles because they will be needed for him to sit up! Even the nurse commented on how alert and active Miller is! We are so proud and happy to have a healthy little boy!

He weighed 12 pounds 5 ounces and was 25 inches long. He was only in the 50% for his weight but he was in the 94% for his length. He is a tall, slender boy! (which makes it really difficult to find pants that fit him properly!) He will go back to the doctor when he is four months old and will have to have another round of immunizations.

mirror, mirror

There has been a big debate about who Miller looks like! The only thing anyone seems to agree on is that Miller has Colby's toes. A lot of people, both family and friends, think that Miller looks like his Uncle Brian. Last night, we were at Colby's parent's house and I was able to look at some baby pictures of Colby. After seeing these pictures, I am pretty sure that Miller looks a lot like his daddy! He even has some of the same expressions. I wanted to post a picture of Colby and Miller side-by-side just for fun! It will be interesting to see how he changes as he gets older and who he looks like!

the big 9-0

Sunday, October 17

Great-grandpa Jack turns 90 on October 21! We had a birthday picnic to celebrate at Lake Ponca. It was fun to see everyone again!

Happy Birthday!

Alfred, Janet, Emily and Christopher came from California and were able to meet Miller for the first time!

While we were in Ponca City, we stopped at my grandma Betty's house to visit. We also went and visited Colby's parents. It was really fun to see them again! We look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

the cutest pumpkin in the patch

Saturday, October 16

We took Miller for his first trip to the pumpkin patch! He wore his "I love my mummy" shirt from grandma Paula. It was a gorgeous day! Perfect for the pumpkin patch- and everyone else thought so too! It was very crowded, so we had some trouble getting pictures. It was also very bright and sunny outside, so Miller kept squinting at the camera. We still had a great time, though! We even picked out some pumpkins including a Miller-sized baby pumpkin! Next year, when Miller is a little bit older, maybe we will go on the hay ride and pony ride and visit the petting zoo!

month two

September 8-October 7

Wow! I can't believe Miller is two months old already! He has grown and changed so much over the last month! He is incredibly alert and his eyes are open so much wider than last month. Here are some of his greatest accomplishments:

-lifts his head and shoulders during tummy time
-startles at loud noises (especially the dogs barking)
-stares at our faces
-follows toys with his eyes
-talks to us and his toys (coos)
-smiles (he did this for the first time on September 24 at almost 7 weeks old)
-holds his head for a very short period of time (he is still pretty wobbly, but he is working on it!)
-puts weight on his legs
-rolls over from tummy to back (he did this three times on September 29 at 7 ½ weeks old, but hasn't repeated it since then)

Miller's first bottle at 5 weeks old. This is a big milestone! Colby and I can finally leave Miller with grandma and/or grandpa for more than 2-3 hours at a time to go on a date or hang out with friends!

Miller likes to lay on his tummy, especially across our laps. It seems to calm him down when he is fussy. However, he isn't a big fan of "tummy time" when he is trying to play. It is too much work to hold his head up and restricts his leg kicking ability! He prefers to lay on his back and stare at his toys while kicking his legs!

Miller smiling in his bouncy seat. He loves the vibration of the seat.

Tummy time! Miller is just over six weeks old in this picture and holding his head and shoulders up like such a big boy!

More tummy time. Miller is almost 8 weeks old in this picture.

Miller usually likes to be swaddled when he sleeps, but this time he was sprawled out on my lap. At two months old, Miller still only sleeps about 4-5 hours at a time. He is getting much better at going to sleep at night, however. At about 7-8 weeks old, we started him on a bedtime routine. I feed him between 8 and 9, then he gets a bath, lotion and we read him a story. We swaddle him and turn on his sleep sheep (rain and ocean are our favorite sounds) and he usually falls right asleep. Oftentimes, he is asleep before the story is even over. Occasionally, he will wake back up about 5-30 minutes after we lay him down, but as soon as we pick him up and rock him a little bit more, he falls back asleep. He typically will sleep from about 9:30-10 until 2-2:30. He almost always goes right back to sleep after being fed (unless he has to poop or burp) and sleeps until 5:30-6:30. I can usually get him to sleep until 8-9 after this feeding. This would be a pretty good amount of sleep if I would go to bed at 9:30 or 10:00 when Miller does! For some reason, I can't ever seem to go to sleep until midnight. It always seems like there is something to do around the house or I end up just hanging out with Colby or watching TV. I am looking forward to the day when Miller sleeps through the night! He usually takes several short naps during the day. Occasionally, he takes a long (2-3 hour) nap in the afternoon. He is not really consistent with napping or sleeping in his bed during the day yet. I don't mind, though! I enjoy the cuddle time while he sleeps in my arms or on my lap.

Miller curled up in his boppy pillow.

Miller had lots of hair when he was born, but it all fell out until he was left with just a little patch of hair at the base of his neck. At two months old, his hair is finally starting to grow back. It is a reddish-brown color.

Miller loves bathtime in his whale tub!

Miller grabs ahold of anything that is near his hands. Some of his favorite things include our hair, our shirts and his ears!

Miller in his OSU hat, all bundled up and ready for his stroller ride.

Beautiful smile! Miller has been smiling at random objects and in his sleep for awhile, but he smiled for the first time in response to our voices and faces this month!

Miller loves sucking on his fist and is trying to suck his thumb! He isn't quite coordinated enough to get his thumb into his mouth yet! I think he likes his fist better than his pacifier.

Miller loves riding in his swing. He especially loves staring at the giraffe on the toy bar and will smile and coo!

Miller is two months old! Each day is more rewarding than the last. All the exhaustion of parenthood melts away when he flashes his big, toothless grin. I can't help but smile back! I am so lucky to be his mommy! I can't wait to see what the next month holds!

our future cowboy!

OSU v. Tulsa

Colby was in Oklahoma City for the day, so my parents invited me and Miller to go to Stillwater with them for the OSU game. We had a great time! We got to the game a little late and had to leave a little early (during the third quarter) so that I could feed Miller. It was pretty loud in the stadium, but Miller did really well with all the noise. We put cotton in his ears and he didn't cry at all. He laid on our laps and looked around with his eyes open really wide! He wore his orange Eskimo Joe shirt from Uncle Brian and Aunt Krystle and he looked so cute! We are looking forward to taking him back to Stillwater for the Walkaround and to tailgate for homecoming. We hope someday he will be at OSU cheering on the Cowboys! Go Pokes!

After the game, we went to Maddie's house to have cake and celebrate Mackenzie's 20th birthday. Mackenzie is one of the directors for Freshman Follies this year for her sorority, Chi Omega. Their theme for Freshman Follies is "Stepford Wives". So, my dad made her a "Stepford Wife" birthday cake. He is so talented!
