Monday, June 21
This week in class, we focused on breast pumps and storing milk. We got to see several different types of pumps and learned how each one worked. It was neat to see all the different types of pumps. We also talked about how long breast milk will last in the refrigerator and freezer as well as foods that are safe to eat while breastfeeding or pumping. We discussed ways to deal with engorgment and sore nipples such as using warm and cold packs, nipple creams, and breast shields. Finally, we talked about weaning baby and mom from breastfeeding properly in order to prevent engorgement and infection. I feel like I am armed with some great information but breastfeeding will really be a hands-on learning experience. I have already received some great encouragment and feel confident that there will be great lactation nurses at the hospital for support.

our eighth appointment
Monday, June 21
We had another ultrasound at this appointment and Dr. Nilson listened to Miller's heartbeat. He looks great! Miller already has a head full of hair. Dr. Nilson measured his hair on the ultrasound and said that Miller has 1/4 inch of hair! We are so excited to meet our baby and see him in person!
We discussed the five signs of labor and indications to call Dr. Nilson. These include my water breaking and contractions that are five minutes or less apart. Dr. Nilson also wants me to start doing fetal kick counts three times a day! I should be feeling baby Miller kick or move at least six times in one hour.
I had not gained any weight at this appointment. I am a little over 34 weeks pregnant and our next appointment will be Tuesday, July 6. After that appointment, I will start going to the doctor once a week!

sunday school shower
Saturday, June 12
We had such a great time at our couples baby shower thrown by our Sunday school class. We are so blessed to have found such a wonderful group of church friends who are at similar stages in life as Colby and me. Many of the couples have young kids and are able to give us great advice for our first baby. They have all been an amazing source of inspiration and support for both of us.

Michelle made us an adorable diaper wreath. The diapers are blue and green polka dot! So cute! You can also see the cute rattle shaped invitations that Michelle sent for the baby shower.
Here is the cake table. It was decorated by Michell G. and Venitta brought the cute stork cake. The cake was delicious and so were the chocolate-covered strawberries and pretzels. I loved the polka dot theme! We also had a wonderful dinner!
Robyn did a great job planning all of the games. Here is everyone trying to guess how big my stomach is. I think Colby's piece of yarn was actually the closest! We also played baby word scramble where we had to unscramble words related to baby items.
We each had a minute to identify as many items in this basket as we could without looking.
Me with all the presents. Everyone was so generous!
What an amazing time!
This is a picture of the bottle-shaped sugar cookies that I made as hostess gifts. I put the cookies on plates that I found at Hobby Lobby. Each plate had the first letter of the last name of one of the couples. I wrapped the plates in cellophane and tied them with cute blue and white polka dot ribbon.

maternity pictures
Friday, June 11
On Friday we had our maternity pictures taken by Brenda Horan. My mom picked up one of her cards at an antique mall. I looked at her pictures online and was really impressed, especially with her baby pictures. Even though I had seen her pictures online, I was still a little anxious that we wouldn't get any good pictures. Brenda was really nice, though, and helped put us at ease. Colby and I took a bunch of clothes with us and Brenda helped us pick out several outfits to wear. The pictures are already up on her website and can be viewed and ordered until next Saturday. To see our pictures go to www.brendahoran.com. Click on "main site" then choose "client proofing" along the top. The password is meg. We hope you like them as much as we do! We are looking forward to having Miller's pictures taken after he is born.

our first breastfeeding class
Monday, June 7
Out of everything that comes along with having a new baby, I am most nervous about breastfeeding! I have heard so many stories about moms who have a difficult time breastfeeding or are not able to breastfeed at all. This week in class we talked about all the benefits of breastfeeding. We learned some basic breastfeeding positions and how to tell if the baby is latching on and getting enough milk. It was encouraging to hear that breastfeeding is a learned skill and can take some time for mom and baby to master. I am looking forward to learning more at our next class.

our seventh appointment
Monday, June 7
Our appointments are really short now that we are going to the doctor every two weeks. Dr. Nilson did a quick ultrasound to make sure that everything is progressing smoothly with Miller. At this appointment, Dr. Nilson estimated how much Miller weighs. Based on several measurements including head circumference and diameter, abdominal circumference, and femur length, Miller weighs 5 pounds 2 ounces and is in the 71.9th percentile for growth. He is 32 weeks and 3 days old. However, based on his weight, his actual ultrasound age is 34 weeks and 5 days old. He is growing fast and will be here before we know it! As Miller grows, so do I! I have gained 31 pounds so far and still have about 7 weeks to go! I am feeling pretty good, except for some swelling in my ankles and my growing impatience to meet our precious boy. Our next appointment will be June 21.
